We received a request from a client, Superga, to present them with a book they can send to their stores which will allow them to added and remove pages over time. Although they wanted their brand colour to be on the cover, it got me thinking of an alternative options with the same concept, but a product we could produce primarily on our laser cutter and engrave. Although it can be manufactured in Perspex (in an extensive range of options) or alternative composite materials, I make most of our prototypes from this light 3mm MDF with cuts and engraves exceptionally well.
My first thought was to create a hybrid, a clip-board styled like a book with a hardcover which we could brand. The minute the image popped into my head, I knew this is exactly what I was going to make. Within one week, we had a similar request for an A3 Student portfolio, I send the images of the prototype and it was confirmed. This could also be manufactured with printed covers just like our regular coffee table books to allow full colour printing with a range of lamination options.
