We were recently presented with an assignment to frame a number of limited edition ceramic plates for the Make A Difference Foundation, aka MAD charity. The brief required us to mount the plates inside a square box-frame with the plate suspended or “floating” in the centre. An all white frame and interior will present the clean look and ensure the colours and details of each ceramic are displayed at their best. Each frame would also be displayed with a silver plaque and accompanying message.
In order to mount the plate securely, we used a strong backing board and involved our laser department to cut a few wooden rings to use inside the frame to help in holding the plates without being noticeable. The laser department was also responsible for making the silver plaques.
On viewing the plates, we noticed that each limited edition was marked on the bottom, we felt it would be a great idea to use our laser department one more time to cut a hole below the mounted plate in order to allow the details to be viewed, details that would otherwise have been permanently covered. Sure, not everyone will see it, but we felt better knowing we put as much effort into our work that it will even impress someone who looks at the back.
